Sto. Domingo Church
The Santo Domingo Church in Quezon City was originally located in Intramuros, Manila which was the church of the Dominican Order. It was one of the biggest and most famous churches in the Philippines. It was moved to Quezon City after the destruction due to World War II. The well-known beautiful and richly robed image of the Virgin Mary was said to be miraculous after saving the city from the Dutch armada invasion in 1646. The image was called Nuestra Senora de La Naval. It was safely hidden and was recovered after the Japanese bombing during the WWII. The Our Lady of La Naval then led a solemn procession to her new home which is in Quezon City together with public officials, bishops, priests, nuns and devotees. On October 10, 1954, the new church was inaugurated. The Sto. Domingo Church was canonically erected as the National Shrine of the Holy Rosary in the Philippines. One of Manila’s biggest religious festivals was dedicated to the Nuestra Senora de La Naval.
